Study in Cyprus

Overview

The Republic of Cyprus is an EU member state with universities that teach in English. Residence permits for students are issued for full-time study at a recognised higher education institution.

Make sure your university is in the Republic of Cyprus. Universities in the north of the island operate under different entry rules that this page does not cover.

Admission steps

1. Shortlist universities and programmes and confirm they are recognised higher education institutions in the Republic of Cyprus.
2. Apply directly to the university. Each sets its own requirements.
3. Accept your offer and ask the university how it handles the entry permit.
4. Obtain your visa or entry permit before you travel (see the visa section).
5. After arrival, register with the police and complete the medical check.

Documents you usually need

• Passport
• Certificates and transcripts
• Language proof where the programme requires it
• Statement of purpose or CV if the university asks
• Requirements are set by each university. Follow their list.

Entry permit and residence permit

1. Get a visa from the Cyprus embassy or consulate in your home country, or an entry permit from the CRMD, before you arrive.
2. After arrival, apply to the CRMD for a temporary residence permit. The official portal states two different deadlines (10 days and one week), so confirm which applies with your university.
3. Register at the District Aliens and Immigration Unit of the Police and complete the medical check.
4. Renew the permit one month before it expires.
